千手觀音 Thousand Hands Of Guan Yin

Performed by China Disabled People's Performing Art Troupe, the "Thousand Hands of Guan Yin" is a stunning dance to watch and an even more amazing once you realize that all the dancers are deaf and mute. It almost seems hard to fathom that anyone could learn rhythm and movements without being able to hear or follow the music. To most people, dancing and music is something that you assume went hand-in-hand. But after watching this video, it's clear that that's not true.

This is the video of the troupe's performance during the CCTV Spring Festival Gala in 2005. Since then the troupe has become quite famous and has been performing around the world.

The CDPPAT will be performing this Sunday, October 7 at the Masonic Auditorium, 1111 California Street in San Francisco. Unfortunately, I don't think that I'll be able to make it but if any one has an opportunity to attend, let e-mail me at dancingblogger@gmail.com and let me know how it was.
